3D/depth effect - Innovations from Silcos

The realistic 3D/depth effect in transparent components

Applications on switches and steering wheel covers with three dimensional inserts generate real highlights in vehicle interiors, however, until now they have been complex and expensive to produce. Common methods for the production of such components are for example with a combination of 2k or 3k injection moulding, with subsequent painting and printing on the back by means of pad printing, screen printing or digital printing.
We have combined various existing technologies into a new process, creating an absolutely realistic 3D/depth effect in transparent plastic components made of polycarbonate, silicone or Plexiglas.
The new process is much simpler and therefore more cost efficient than existing processes.

The task

  • Highly abrasion and scratch resistant
  • Temperature range from -40°C to +105°C
  • Chemical resistance
  • UV resistance
  • Simpler and therefore more cost efficient processes

Implementation

With the right base materials and corresponding protective coatings, we produce your component in such as way to meet the specific requirements of the automotive industry regarding temperature range, abrasion and scratch resistance, chemical resistance and UV resistance. The visual highlight of the 3D depth effect is achieved by combining existing technologies such as printing, PVD and injection moulding.

  • High abrasion resistant surface protection lacquer
  • Water resistant, dustproof and sterilisable
  • Reduction of process steps and tools
  • Full 3D design freedom
  • Temperature resistant over wide range
  • Protective coatings for specific requirements
  • Resistance to UV radiation and chemicals

Conclusion

Innovative highlights with metallic and three dimensional inserts
Especially for use in the automotive industry, our new method of manufacturing three dimensional inserts is an efficient and cost effective innovation. Which is the next component made of polycarbonate, silicone or Plexiglass that we can help you to achieve an absolutely realistic 3D/depth effect with?
